Travel Journal: Monday, August 4

Uganda Transformational Travel Journal
Monday, August 4

Yesterday you read a good example to follow. Today’s example is…well…not so good. However it still provides important lessons and insight. Please remember to pray to the Father that the Spirit will provide insight during this time.

Jonah’s transforming travel to Nineveh
Read Jonah 1, 3, and 4
Who transforms in this story, Nineveh or Jonah?
What is the result of Jonah’s travel?
What insight do we gain about the Lord at the beginning of Jonah 3, but Jonah know all along?
What do we learn about the nature of God’s work?

Here are my thoughts on today's entry.

---------------

Lord, what amazing things you can do through unwilling servants! How much more can you do with willing servants? Here I am, Lord, a willing servant. Use me in whatever way you deem best.

Heavenly Father, prepare my heart. Jonah went into his missionary work with racist thoughts and a hard heart. Help me to leave these behind that I can: speak and live your message; and rejoice in the beauty of your vineyard.

Jonah is convinced of Your grace and mercy. Lord allow me to see such wonderful acts of grace and mercy so that I too can be thoroughly convinced.

It overwhelms my soul that God’s message was delivered despite the fact that Jonah was a poor instrument. What excites and humbles me about that is God’s work and message will march on with or without me. IT’S NOT ABOUT ME. I am not the center of it. That’s such a relief.

It also reminds me about the service on Sunday in which we learned of the eternal nature of God. In this story we find that God’s work is eternal. Jonah could be involved. But no mere mortal could up set.
