Travel Journal: Sunday, August 3

In preparation for our travels to Uganda, each of the Pillars was given a journal. The following entries are the questions found in the journal. I will post my journal entry as a comment. I hope that this will encourage a wonderful sharing, discussion, and an encouragement to my fellow travelers.

Uganda Transformational Travel Journal
Sunday, August 3
One way in which to prepare for the trip is to scour the scriptures for examples of transformational travel, good and bad. Below is a passage you can read in order to gain insight into God’s will in your life. You may have read this story many times. The amazing aspect about scripture is its ability to speak to the seeker’s needs despite the fact that the content never changes. That is why the writer of Hebrews writes, “the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword…”

Before starting any Bible reading, start with a prayer for revelation from the Spirit. To dive in without Him is arrogance.

Abram’s transforming travel from Ur
Read Genesis 12:1-8 and Hebrews 11:8-10
What similarities and difference do you see between Abram’s journey and your own?
What emotions do you and Abram share?
What did Abram sacrifice? What do you sacrifice?
On what did Abram have his eyes set? On what are your fixed?

So much from this passage stands out to me.
- Jesus at this ascension called us to go out. Just as God called Abram to go out. I will leave home for a short time. I will leave comfort and what is familiar. When I come back will I return to the comforts of home or will I stay removed from those things, making the preaching and demonstration of the gospel foremost?
- God says He will make Abram a blessing. Father, make me a means of blessing.
- God’s work is eternal. Human age is meaningless to Him. Father, use me despite my youth!
- What is the significance of building an altar? If I remember correctly, altars showed people that something monumental happened in a location. Father, help this trip to be monumental to me and the people of Uganda. Allow its memory and work to be grounded and firm, long lasting, like an altar.
- Lord, I don’t want Uganda to be my country as Canaan was to Abram. I want Uganda to be yours. Help me to be an instrument in helping fan the flames of faith and love there.
- Father, speak to me as clearly as you spoke to Abram. Give me ears to hear and clear focus.
- Father, I wait, pray for, hope and work towards that home land that is eternal. Oh, for that eternal life with you, in beautiful communion, no hindrances
- Lord may our trip bear much fruit in our live as well as their, as numerous as Abram’s descendents.
